"Tiberias"

Tiberias is considered to be one of the four holiest cities in the land of Israel. It is referred to as the city of water. Tiberias has a vibrant history and is a Jewish city with a pulse (there is tremendous spiritual movement there which is nourished by it's exalted past). There are countless holy sites within the city limits as well as it's suburbs.

Tiberias # 3 - Rebbe Meir Baal Ha Ness - He was a tanna (4th generation) and one of the main expounders of the Mishnah. His wife was the famous wise woman Beruriah. He was a descendent of converts to Torah Judaism.
Tiberias # 4 - Rebbe Meir Baal Ha Ness - Inside the synagogue at Rebbe Meir's resting place. It is a place of light and enlightenment.

Rabbi Meir Bal Ha Ness- The underground of the synagogue - The name, Rebbe Meir, was a later name given to him which stayed ("The Illuminator"), so called because he enlightened the eyes of scholars and students in Torah law. The name, Bal Ha Ness, added to Rebbe Meir, simply means the master of miracles. Miracles were attributed to him.

Tiberias - Rabbi Akiva - his resting place is high on the hill overlooking Tiberias and the Lake Kinneret. He was born about 50 years before the destruction of the 2nd Temple and lived a total of 120 years. He became incredibly great because of the goodness of his wife Rachel. It was all due to her, he said.
Luzzatto, Moshe Chaim (Ramchal) - he lived 1707 - 1747 is buried East only a few meters from Rabbi Akiva. He was a great Kabbalist and poet, the author of "The Way of God" (Derech Hashem)

Tiberias - Rambam (Maimonides) the kever is located in the center of the city. He was great due to his wisdom and commentaries on the Mishnah and other writings. Unique and controversial in his time (and perhaps centuries ahead of his time) The Rambam was also a doctor and made the Torah more understandable and accessible to the entire Jewish community.
